Webinar details

Join us for a deep dive into the evolving dynamics of global licensing rounds and how they’re shaping oil and gas development worldwide. Discover how licensing patterns have shifted over the past decade, with a focus on countries now leaning on direct negotiations instead of traditional bid rounds to attract investments in the energy sector. Explore how E&P companies are adapting to these changes amidst increasing pressures for decarbonization and financial caution.

Key topics covered:

  • Shifting interest in licensing: Despite a decline in interest, recent oil price stability has encouraged many countries to continue promoting their available acreage.
  • E&P response to energy transition: With the global push for decarbonization, securing investment for traditional exploration cycles has become more challenging, influencing E&P strategies.
  • Decoupling from oil prices: Recent years have shown that acreage awards are less connected to oil prices, reflecting selective strategies, market uncertainties and a rise in mergers and acquisitions.
  • Innovation in Southeast Asia: As Southeast Asian countries innovate tender offers to attract investments, the region sees new approaches to investing in mature and recycled acreage.
  • Innovative tender rounds: Southeast Asian countries have notably innovated their tender offers to attract investment into mature and recycled acreage.
  • Direct negotiations vs. bid rounds: Although high-profile bid rounds remain popular, data reveals that direct negotiations have yielded higher acreage awards in Africa – a trend that may expand globally.
  • Global case studies: Gain insights from Brazil’s consistent licensing success and Mexico’s challenges, highlighting how different approaches impact investment and development outcomes.
