What technologies enabled the Shale Revolution?

The Shale Revolution was driven by two key technologies: horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Horizontal drilling allows operators to access thin, horizontally extensive shale layers, while hydraulic fracturing (or fracking) involves injecting fluid at high pressure to create fractures in the rock, releasing trapped hydrocarbons.
