Elk’s strategy is focused on applying established enhanced oil recovery technologies in an environmentally sensitive manner to mature oil fields. To date, the Field has produced more than 500 million barrels of oil of the estimated 1.5 billion bbls of the original oil in place. Elk Petroleum Aneth is majority-owned and controlled by funds and accounts managed by AllianceBernstein.

Challenges

Data Fragmentation and Workflow Inefficiencies: Addressing Elk’s Core Challenges

In 2021, Elk Petroleum’s leadership team identified the need for better spend visibility and controls as major gaps affecting the company’s overall efficiency and profitability. However, like many E&Ps, they were also faced with fragmented internal processes that used paper-based methods to document and track their AP workflow. Because of this lack of spend control and process inefficiencies, Elk Petroleum was faced with duplicate invoices and rogue spend.

By leveraging the Enverus business automation suite of products – including OpenOrder, OpenTicket®, OpenMaterials, and OpenInvoice® – Elk Petroleum was able to ensure that internal processes are more efficient to reduce OpEx and leverage a granular view into spend to reduce overbilling.

Solutions

Implementing the Enverus Source-to-Pay Product Suite

To address these challenges, Elk Petroleum launched a formal RFP process to assess solutions on the market that were best suited to address their pain points. As a fit-for-purpose solution set that gave them the capability for granular data analysis, a transparent view into spend data, and most importantly, unified data sets that would give them a holistic view of business activity, Enverus’ Source-to-Pay suite fit the bill. Elk started by implementing OpenInvoice, and eventually decided to incorporate other business automation solutions from Enverus into their existing tech stack.

Results

Measurable Success: Lower Processing Costs & Increased Efficiency

Through their implementation of Enverus Source-to-Pay solutions, Elk was able to get a unified view into their spend on one platform, identify and improve their internal processes, increase their efficiency and put a stop to overbilling and incorrect coding on their field tickets and invoices. Adoption and integration weren’t a major hurdle either, with staff and suppliers alike easily transitioning to using the Enverus Source-to-Pay product suite.
