Kyle Haustveit was confirmed as the 16th Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office (HGEO) on September 18, 2025. In this role, Mr. Haustveit oversees HGEO and the National Energy Technology Laboratory’s research and development portfolio in hydrocarbon (coal, oil, and natural gas) and geothermal resources to provide affordable, reliable, and secure energy.

He also held roles at Suncor within the Renewable Energy business and at the Alberta Department of Energy.
