Weld County Spotlight
Located in North Central Colorado at the crossroads between the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains, Weld County has a distinctive Western Air. I must confess; I like Weld County. Never mind that if the wind is right the entire area smells like a feedlot. This county is small enough to have a rural feel yet big enough to have all of the necessities a man could want. From hotels to restaurants to bars, the county seat of Greeley has them all. If this still isn’t enough, you are only an hour away from all the attractions that Denver has to offer and an hour away from Rocky Mountain National Park. Overall, a quality slice of Americana.
As of late, Weld has seen an explosion in leasing activity. With EOG’s Jake Well discovery in the Niobrara formation leasing has made a traditionally active county even more active.
2006: 1236
2007: 1151
2008: 3095
2009: 3974
1/1/2010 through 5/20/2010: 2881
As you can see 2010 is on pace to double what was a record 2009. The leasing is also extending up into Goshen and Laramie Counties in Wyoming. Based upon similar plays and technology used throughout other Resource Plays in the United States, you should expect this land grab to continue for a while. The active Lessees for 2010 are shown below.
