Drilling Info is pleased to announce the launch of its ‘Eastern Mediterranean & Kurdistan’ Activity Service with immediate effect. Country coverage includes :

  • Greece Offshore
  • Iraqi Kurdistan
  • Israel
  • Lebanon
  • Syria
  • Turkey Offshore

Ian Blakeley, Drilling Info’s VP for Middle East & South Asia, is particularly excited about the region and the rewards it has already started to bring E&P companies :

Eastern Mediterranean

“With the emergence of the Levantine Basin as a major hydrocarbon province, the Eastern Mediterranean has become a major focus area for companies prepared to seek oil and gas riches in a region characterised by geopolitical complexities, potential conflicts and wide-ranging challenges. With its numerous deep water, sub-salt discoveries offshore Israel and recent success offshore Cyprus, Noble Energy has largely been responsible for re-awakening industry interest in the region – the company having established a resource potential of around 35 Tcf and triggered recent / upcoming licensing rounds in Cyprus and Lebanon. Elsewhere, the Nile Delta offshore Egypt continues to be a prolific source of hydrocarbons and Greece is making headway in its efforts to return to the energy map in a period when the sector constitutes a great hope for the national economy.”

Iraqi Kurdistan

“Despite a fluid political environment with the federal government of Iraq, Kurdistan has developed a vibrant petroleum sector in recent years and is widely regarded as one of the last oil and gas frontier areas in the world. The region currently plays host to over 40 international E&P companies and the undiscovered resource potential has been estimated by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to be in the region of 45 Bbo & 100 Tcf. Extensive exploration programmes have resulted in world class hydrocarbon discoveries such as Sheikhan (Gulf Keystone) and Miran (Heritage) and the growing importance of the region is clearly illustrated by the recent entry of ExxonMobil and Chevron despite the associated political ramifications.”
