It would a shame to overlook the TX panhandle Granite Wash play in leiu of all the attention given to the gas shales. Thankfully, we dont do that here at Drilling Info. Here we will take a quick look at one of the more popular fields in the play, Stiles Ranch located in NE Wheeler county at the border of Oklahoma.
This look will be restricted to just the wells brought to sales since 2008. Stiles Ranch is the second most active field in the Granite Wash and is home to some pretty prolific wells. Below is a map of the 164 Stiles Ranch wells brought on since 2008, its colored by company. Newfield is by far the most active player in this area of the Granite Wash, but some other notable players are here like Forest, Chesapeake and Apache. (click on the map to enlarge)
Lets take a look at some production. Below is the same map colored by cumulative produced gas and bubbled by Prac IP (2nd month production). The McCoy 27 lease seems to be sitting on a sweet spot.
There has been greater than 80 Bcf of gas and 1 million bbls of oil produced from these wells. The 6-month gas cum is about 350 MMcf often with natural gas liquids and oil so they payout quickly. We are seeing reported well costs at around $6.5MM-$8MM. All activity is tracked as well as more in depth analysis in the Granite Wash Unconventional Updates so check back often.
